Santa and his reindeer, Nelson Mandela, the Power Puff Girls, Borat, Magic Genies and construction workers were just some of the weird and wonderful characters that showed up at this years Jolly Jester Adventure Sprint Race at the Eikenhof Lapa’s in Grabouw. One could not have asked for a better designed course, with a little bit of everything to challenge this years competitors. Awesome singletrack, fast flowing downhills and energy sapping climbs greeted athletes on the mountain bike leg. The “run” leg of the course was no picnic either, with sandy jeep tracks, ankle bruising kloofing and assisted water crossings all contributing to a varied and exciting race. Just when competitors thought it was all over, they got handed a giant truck tube, courtesy of Dunlop Tyres, and were told to paddle their way around an inflatable buoy before making their way to the finish line. The brave, silly and competitive amongst the bunch then did the whole route again, in order to finish the “long” course. The less competitive athletes grabbed ice cold USN energy drinks and parked off under the towering pines to watch the rest of the field straggle in, under the blazing 11am sun. Elite teams Giant/Salomon, Giant/New Balance and Team Rev battled it out for top spot, with the lead changing a number of times over the 30km course. In the end, Giant/New Balance comfortably beat Giant/Salomon, with Team Rev less than 45 seconds behind them. Races like these are not all about the best of the bunch, but also the semi competitive and the weekend warriors. With plenty of action to entertain the kiddies, refreshments on sale for hungry racers and awesome action to keep all the spectators entertained, the Jolly Jester Adventure Sprint race is definitely a day out for the whole family. The next Quantum Adventures Sprint Race is taking place on the 27th of January so diarise that now and get trainingJ For more info look on www.quantumadventures.co.za
